Chew gum and recovered faster from Surgery

Surgeons have discovered chewing gums can help patients recover from colon surgery faster. Gum juice may actually fuel up gut hormones and pancreatic secretions. They made an analysis of five studies with a total of 158 patients. These patients (who had surgery) improved from colon surgery that chewed sugarless gum three times a day for five to 45 minutes while others didn’t chew any gums at all. The patients who chewed gum had recovered faster while the patients who did not chew gum stayed more days to recover from the surgery. The sugarless gum has artificial sweetener called Sorbitol and is know to have a laxative effect. This sounds sensible. This might really work. I guess, whenever I have constipation, I'll try to chew gum. Let's see what the effect is.

A man bought a new truck with coins

A 70-year-old man in Ohio used 16 coffee cans full of coins to cover up half the price of a brand new pickup truck. He says that he doesn't trust paper money. The employees in the dealership spent 90 minutes counting the huge collection of dimes, quarters, half-dollars and dollar coins, which were total of half the $16,000 price of the pickup. He always prefers to use coins instead of bills. That is weirdisn’t it? But true!

A 1991 Chevrolet Silverado truck with $1 million miles

A man wants to sell his 1991 Chevrolet Silverado truck with more than 1 million miles. Wow! That has a lot of miles. I wonder if he is going to make a big record out of it. The truck has four radiators, three gas tanks and five transmissions and the engine is still original. I am kinda curious about this truck. I never thought a vehicle could still run with 1 million miles in it. I guess, it is possible. I wonder how this man maintained the condition of this truck. Frank Oresnik 58-year-old of northern Wisconsin. He wants to sell it to someone who can display it because it is unique. And he is hoping to sell it for $100,000. The minimum bidding is $30,000 and auction continues for 10 days.

A Phony Joker

A man was arrested who tried to steal posters and other objects related to the new Batman movie from a cinema lobby while clothed up as the Joker. The 20-year-old has been investigated for malicious destruction of property. The man was wearing a purple suit, a green wig and face paint in the style of Batman's opponent, the Joker, in "The Dark Knight". This is funny and weird but true. Many people like this movie. And I think this man got carried away. See photo on the left.

a knife from subway sandwich

A man allegedly found a knife in foot-long "Cold Cut Trio" Subway sandwich. He found a knife with a 7-inch blade baked into the bread. When he was taking a few bites from the sandwich, he spotted the knife jutting out from the bread's crust. The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan state court and seeks $1 million. Do you believe it? I could hardly believe the story of this man. How could that possibly happen? In Subway, they sliced the bread lengthwise then placed all the ingredients that you desired then, sliced it into two. And basically, the food server is touching the bread. I bet you, this is a bunch of crap just to make money.

Canine cuisine off the menu in Beijing Olympics

Canine cuisine will be out of the menu for Beijing Olympic. Dog meat has been hit from the menus for Olympic restaurants. The Beijing tourism officials are announcing to put off consumers from getting dishes made from dogs. Yuck! There is no way that I would eat dogs. The restaurants should suggest other options to diners who would order dog. Like South Korea banned dog meat during the 1988 Seoul. There are some countries that dog meat is eaten like Asian countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines and Laos. I remember when I was still in the P.I., my neighbors would eat dog meat. I thought it was gross and cruel to dogs. They said that it tastes like goat meat.

Prince Charles is eco-friendly

Prince Charles runs his 38-year-old Aston Martin (photo shown) on biofuel made from wine. Charles reduced his carbon footprint by 18 percent last year. The prince's Jaguars, Audi and Range Rover now run entirely on biodiesel made from used cooking oil which he uses for domestic travel. I didn't know Prince Charles is eco-friendly. That is a great idea he has. I wish I have car like that. But I wonder which one is more expensive, the gas or wine? haha But anyway, wine is more bio-friendly.

Typhoon Frank

I was amazed this morning to learn that there was a strong typhoon in the Philippines last weekend (Philippine time). It was very sad to hear that there was ferry (Sulpicio Lines) sank last Saturday. At lot of people were missing approximately 700. And there was a report that 17 people were killed during the typhoon in Cebu. The huge flood in Luzon which I was not surprised at all. I remember when I was Manila way back in 1999, I was shocked to see flood everywhere. I hope and pray that the families of missing passengers will have the strength to face this terrible calamity.

Pig in Boots

In Northern England, a piglet who developed a phobia of mud has overcome its fear by wearing boots brand Wellington. Cinders, the name of the piglet, a young saddleback pig. The pig was discovered to have a condition called mysophobia, a fear of dirt. The pig had been refusing to wallow in the mud with other pigs. So, the owners had the idea of letting her wear with the bespoke miniature footwear to conquer the fear. However, the owner owned a sausage company and said that Cinders will be spared the butcher's knife and instead act as a mascot to the Farm Crisis Network which supports struggling farmers. Isn't it strange? I never heard of any pigs before having a fear of mud. They all seem to like mud! haha

A $6K watermelon

A black jumbo watermelon being auctioned in Japan with a record of $6,100. It's the most expensive watermelon ever sold in the country and possibly the world's. It is 17-pound premium Densuke watermelon, one of only 65 from the first harvest of the season. In Japan, melons are a luxury item commonly given as gifts. That's weird. They said that it has a different level of sweetness. It is the highest price on record for a Densuke watermelon, and means it's the highest of any watermelon in Japanese history. Isn't it strange? But I always Japanese culture is interesting to study.

$15 charge for checked bag

American Airplanes are going to charge $15 for first checked bag which starts on June 15 this year. They cut domestic flights and possibly lay off many workers because of the unstoppable increase of fuel. The fee for a first checked bag would exempt people from elite levels of its frequent flyer programs, those who bought full-fare tickets and those traveling overseas. This sucks. Why would they charge us for $15 checked bag? I hope the other airline companies would not do the same thing.

A girl's twin was inside her stomach

Sounds interesting? I found this news on the net. Well, here is the story. A 9-year-old girl in Athens, Greece, went to hospital suffering from stomach pain was discovered to be carrying her developing twin. Doctors checked up the girl and surgically removed a growth that they later revealed as an embryo about two inches long. They saw on the right side that her stomach was swollen. They couldn't think that this lump would hide an embryo. This sounds strange. Well, that could possibly happen. They said that the embryo was a shaped fetus with a head, hair and eyes, but no brain nor umbilical cord. This is a very rare case. What do you think about this?
