Bossa Nova

I love Bossa Nova music. It is a Brazilian type of music. I like Brazilian music despite I can't understand nor speak Portuguese. I just don't care about the lyrics when it comes to boss nova music, I really love the beat and the harmony. There are many boss nova songs translated in English so that works out with me (haha). The bossa nova style of music was popularized by the famous musicians Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1950’s. Some of you may have heard about them. The first time I heard the song called " The from Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto. I thought it was an Italian song. At that time, I just couldn't identify what it was. I didn't know any Portuguese and boss nova back then.

The bossa nova music derives from samba beat and is highly influenced by jazz. It is more commonly played on guitar and piano and sometimes with accompaniments of orchestra. And its rhythm always sways. The most popular boss nova was "The of Ipanema" which was sung by Astrud Gilberto and performed by the famous Antonio Carlos Jobim. It was also sung by Peggy Lee, which the title was changed to "The boy from Ipanema". I also like the song "Desafinado" which means "slightly out of tune" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and also popularized by Frank Sinatra in his own English version.

Indeed Bossa nova speaks with love and a bohemian life. Until now, it is still popular around the world.

Convention Hall Auditorium Organ

The photo shown I grabbed from the net is Convention Hall Auditorium Organ. It is the pipe organ in the Main Auditorium (which can seat 41,000 people in the main auditorium) of the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, built by the Midmer-Losh Organ Company. The great hall is part of the world's largest pipe organ. The organ has 33,112 pipes in 455 ranks, including a full-length 64 foot Diaphone Profunda, ten 32 foot ranks, and manual and pedal reeds that are under 100 inches of wind pressure, while most organs never exceed 10 inches of pressure. It is said that it takes 4 1/2 hours to tour the entire organ. What a bizarre instrument!

Swing Out Sister

starring (I thought about posting one of my favorite music artists, "Swing Out Sister". I really love their songs since I was in high school. The group is known for their song called "Breakout". Actually, I loved that song. The group was formed by Andy Connell (keyboards) and Martin Jackson (drums), and later was joined by Corinne Drewery (vocals). The name derived from a 1945 Swing Out, Sister. They chose the name because it was the only thing the band could agree on. Drewery was actually a fashion designer and model before she became the band's lead vocalist. Here is a sample, "Breakout".

Watermelon Nights

I thought of sharing this video here in my blog. Check it out. They look really cute.
Watermelon Nights" is the 11th episode of the Meth Minute 39 cartoon series. Director Dan Meth takes the animation out into the real world with a full-length stop motion music video for this summer anthem by underground musician John Crave. It's one of the "sweetest" short films ever made.

"Watermelon Nights" Lyrics by John Crave

Watermelon Nights Are Calling
Just as soon as Ice starts Thawing
Watermelon nights will be here
so sing along

Watermelon Nights are racing
through the streets without a trace and
watermelon nights will be gone
before too long

Oh don't be sad when the nights are over because
Watermelon Nights come back every year.

Watermelon Nights are starting
like the flowers in your garden
Watermelon Nights are here
so sing along

Watermelon Nights are erasing
all the teardrops on your face and
watermelon nights will be gone
before too long

Oh don't be sad when the nights are over because
Watermelon Nights come back every year.
