Family time

My entire extended family has Direct TV Raleigh now I swear, even the aunts and uncles in North Carolina. It is so funny that we all ended up getting the same TV service. In a way, it makes every house feel a little like our own. I know the husbands all enjoy it very much. It means that no matter where we go for the holidays, the men will be able to watch their favorite sports games and teams. I know my husband has said that he is really happy about that. Of course, it does not faze me all that much. I do think it is good all the guys can get together and bond over something whenever we get together. The families do not get together as much as they should. I think it is because we all live so far apart. My husband’s brother and some of his family live in North Carolina. We live in Pennsylvania and his parents have moved around a bit recently. It makes it hard to get together when we are spread out and far apart. So when we do get together, everything we do seems a bit more precious.

Baby shower

Last week I went to my first co-ed baby shower. It was really fun and I think my husband would even admit that he had a good time. The food was really good and they served alcohol, which I thought was a little strange. Another thing that I thought was kind of strange was that they had a football game on the entire shower. The host of the shower had direct tv and there was some big football game on, so I know my husband was relieved that he did not have to miss it. I guess I am just used to baby showers that include dainty food and silly shower games. However, after having attended this shower, I will have a whole new outlook on hosting a shower. I thought that the idea of having a barbecue dinner for food was great. Also, I will never again suggest playing silly shower games because nobody seems to enjoy playing them anyway. I do not think I would suggest having a football game on, although this is one way to get males to come to the shower. The mom-to-be did open her gifts, but the only ones watching were the girls who could not pull their spouses away from the football game. I hope that the next baby shower I host will be co-ed.

Who would have thought after all this time I’d get back into art? I love being the “master of my domain” which is why I decided to go into business for myself but after years of consulting I finally decided opening an art gallery was where my heart really was. Anyway, I’m happier than ever and things are really looking up – business is booming! I’ve gotten to do a lot of the fun managerial stuff on my own like looking at small business xo and calling an accountant and dealing with the Small Business Administration and I’ve learned a ton along the way. It’s nice being able to really take charge of my situation and deal with things as they come to me and not have to ask for permission to do it. My clients love the space and I just love getting to do art all day long – it’s pretty much the ideal space for me and I love every minute of this new career I’ve carved out for myself.

here are bad carbohydrates and good carbohydrates. Don't you know that? People who are into "diet" or "losing weight" tend to avoid carbs in general. But they don't know how to distinguish bad carbohydrates from good ones. Let us define Carbohydrates first. Carbs are combination of starches, sugar and fiber that provide the body with fuel it needs for physical activity by breaking down into glucose. Glucose is a type of sugar that our cells use it as source for daily activities. People eat good carbohydrates are less likely to accumulate body fat. Now, what are bad carbs and good carbs?

Bad carbs are foods that have been processed such as flour, refined sugar, and white rice. You can digest these carbs faster but they can cause rise in sugar that cause to weight gain. Since this year started, I eat brown rice a lot. I have white rice in some occasions. White rice is not good for us.

Good carbs can be found whole grains, beans, fruits, and vegetables, which also offer lots of additional health benefits, including heart disease and cancer prevention. They can’t be digested as easily. And it keeps your sugar and insulin levels on balance.

I love Bossa Nova music. It is a Brazilian type of music. I like Brazilian music despite I can't understand nor speak Portuguese. I just don't care about the lyrics when it comes to boss nova music, I really love the beat and the harmony. There are many boss nova songs translated in English so that works out with me (haha). The bossa nova style of music was popularized by the famous musicians Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1950’s. Some of you may have heard about them. The first time I heard the song called " The from Ipanema" by Astrud Gilberto. I thought it was an Italian song. At that time, I just couldn't identify what it was. I didn't know any Portuguese and boss nova back then.

The bossa nova music derives from samba beat and is highly influenced by jazz. It is more commonly played on guitar and piano and sometimes with accompaniments of orchestra. And its rhythm always sways. The most popular boss nova was "The of Ipanema" which was sung by Astrud Gilberto and performed by the famous Antonio Carlos Jobim. It was also sung by Peggy Lee, which the title was changed to "The boy from Ipanema". I also like the song "Desafinado" which means "slightly out of tune" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and also popularized by Frank Sinatra in his own English version.

Indeed Bossa nova speaks with love and a bohemian life. Until now, it is still popular around the world.

I'm always careful in browsing the net especially if I do important and confidential transactions like using my credit card, paypal and stuff like that. Today, there are many applications of e-commerce such as home banking, buying stocks, online stores and services using internet. We should be careful sending your personal information like your bank account numbers, credit card numbers, social security number and password using any unknown site. One time, I was planning on sending money to my folks in P.I. through online remittance like Xoom and moneygram but I was really meticulous to sign up because I have to give my social security no. for anti-money laundering purposes. So, what I did was, I just sent money to my folks through locals and not on the net. I feel at peace and ease for not signing up and not giving out my detailed info to the sites that I mentioned earlier. Although, those site are secured but I am always meticulous and careful in giving out my info.

However, always use secure websites for this purpose because secure websites safe your private information from others using encryption and some authentication standards. Internet Explorer and Firefox always display a small lock icon on the task bar when we open any secure site and start domain name with https\\ and padlock icon.

We are really getting closer to Summertime. It is getting warmer and warmer every day. The sun is so hot. People would like to do more outdoor activities like barbecue, swimming, camping and the like. When you are planning on doing these things, you must include sunblock. Sunblock is important especially during the hot season. The UV rays, as we know, can cause cancer and other skin diseases. I have been very busy lately. We are having a major renovation for our home so it will be ready for sale. I can't wait to get things done. We are not even half done yet, I am already exhausted. Grrr.. It is such as a big project for this year. And hopefully, we could buy a nice cheaper and bigger house this year. Our house right now is not that big. It is only a two-bedroom house. Anyhow, I pray that the real estate market will still go down. I heard that next year real estate would bounce back. I don't know how true it is but before that happens I hope we bought a house. Technology changes everything in the sense that home appliances, tvs, gadgets, and the like become more advanced, highly developed and sophisticated. Just like when we got our lcd tv, it changes our thought of a happy viewing experience. I like digital tvs because they are way better in resolution. They are flat and thin. It doesn’t really occupy space compare to normal televisions. Most lcd tvs can be mounted on the wall or on the table. I remember when we got our lcd television, it was such a great experience. And you know what, I feel like I can never go back to old traditional tv. When you have LCD tv, everything is clear and perfect. There’s a vast difference. You won’t see any grainy looking stuff on your screen. It looks perfectly clear and seems like you are at a movie theater. In this economic tight spot that we are facing now, it is not easy to spend money, as money is hard to come by. There are many things we can lessen our expenses these days. I normally write them down so I won't forget. And my number one priority this year is to develop a relationship with God and spend time more time with God alone. As Matthew 6:33 states,"But seek ye first the kingdom of God,and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Yes, it's true. If you prioritize God first, God will make your paths straight and will lead in the way you should go. How about? Do you want to get closer to God every day?

When kids think of Christmas, they see Santa Claus on their minds. I remember when I was a kid, I get excited whenever I see Christmas decoration and Santa Claus in the stores. Did you notice that the price of gas is going down every day? Is this a good sign? To ordinary people like me, it's a good sign. After the sky-high price of gas 6 months ago, at least we could breathe now. If you go to department stores, you will notice clothing is cheaper now. Let's see if the price of food will go down too. I don't see any development yet. But I am kinda worried why the prices of goods went down during recession or economic crisis. Are we in deflation?

Real estate is interesting to me since the market went down. For those who can afford to buy a house, I think it is the right time to take this advantage of this oppotunity while the houses are still affordable. According to "Money" magazine, the real estate prices would go down more next year. A number of foreclosures and short sales will rise next year. But I fear that real estate might go up again anytime next year. It is not that I don't necessarily believe the market analysts. In this month of November, the banks got a trillion dollars welfare check from the government. With the Federal bail out law, there is a great possibility that real estate market would go up next year. In this case, value of the real property will be artificially inflated. I would like to watch the new James Bond, Quantum of Solace at the theater. I was not really a big fan of James Bond before until I saw the "Casino Royale". But I always like the soundtrack - all of it. I thought that was best James Bond movie I've ever seen. I like the story - it was not mainly focused on gadgets and women. What is FPIES? Studies found out that rice can cause a form of gut inflammation in some infants. This is called, food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome or FPIES. It is an inflammatory reaction of the digestive system to certain food proteins such as cow's milk, soy, meat and grains. Infants with this syndrome will suffer vomiting and diarrhea within roughly 2 hours of eating those food proteins. Australian researchers found that over 16 years, 14 children came to their hospital with FPIES. Rice remains a hypoallergenic food and it is first recommended as the first solid for infants. At last Iraq nation won the legal dispute over its ownership because they believed that the yacht belong to their country. This 270-foot yacht is very fancy. It has swimming pools, salons, a secret passage gold-tap bathrooms, a mini-operating theater, a helicopter landing pad and a rocket launching system. It is believed to cost $35 million. I am quite busy today. I just got back home from my doctor to get my stitches removed. It went all well. Last week, I had skin mole and two harmless tiny cysts on my neck removed. I just found out today that the mole was harmless. I felt better about it. I don't mind moles but that mole was getting bigger and darker. I kinda worried about it and plus, I don't want a big mole on my face. Today, I am waiting for a call from our friend. She's going to have a knee surgery and she has no ride. I am back from our vacation. I was not able to post here for two weeks. The vacation in Oregon was full of fun for ten days. We took advantage of no sales tax. haha Anyhow, the road trip to Oregon took us 18 hours. It was rainy at that time. And back to San Diego, it took us 22 hours because we had many stops. It was very nice to be back home. That was a long travel.

I was not able to post anything here nor drop any EC during my vacation as I didn't have time to do so. I will make it up to those who dropped EC on this blog. I was surprised when I saw my real rank went really down and my Google page rank was gone. Yet, I was thankful to God for it; I enjoyed having it for five months. Well, I hope I can get it back someday.
